Frequently Asked Questions About Our Organic Cotton Clothing

Made in Turkey (and using Turkish cotton), our t-shirts and long sleeves begin life using 80% organic cotton and 20% recycled cotton. Conventional cotton still accounts for 99% of all cotton production but is really bad for the environment. It can take around 10,000 litres of water just to make a kilogram of cotton. It uses pesticides and other synthetic chemicals, is often genetically modified and can be toxic to farmers, putting the health of workers at risk. Chinese cotton is banned in many countries due to the treatment of the Uighur community - we will never use it in our products. We use 80% organic cotton and 20% recycled cotton to produce our clothing items. With our circular fashion line, just send the clothes back to us once they've served their purpose in your wardrobe – and we'll make a new piece of clothing out of them, increasing the recycled % of our clothes over time. And we can do this over and over again. It’s what we call agood loop.

4. What material is used for crafting shirts and tops?

Our shirts and tops are made using 80% organic cotton and 20% recycled cotton. Organic cotton is a natural fiber that is grown without the use of synthetic chemicals. Recycled cotton can be generally defined as converting cotton fabric into cotton fibre that can be reused in textile products. Detailed material information is available on our website and explained further below.

5. What is organic cotton?

Organic cotton is breathable and durable, soft enough to wear in any climate, and resistant to wrinkles and shrinking when washed correctly.

Organic cotton comes from non-GMO plants grown without the use of synthetic agricultural chemicals, such as fertilizers or pesticides. Adherence to these practices has to be certified by an appropriate government agency or approved NGO.

Our recycled organic cotton is GRS-certified (Global Recycled Standard), and our organic cotton from Turkey is both GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OCS-certified (Organic Content Standard).

6. What is recycled cotton?

Opting for recycled cotton presents a unique strategy for promoting sustainability. Rather than discarding worn-out cotton garments, we transform them into fresh cotton fibers, ready for reuse. This prevents the accumulation of old clothes in landfills and also diminishes the necessity to manufacture new cotton.

At agood company, we champion recycled cotton due to its focus on circularity and the reduced reliance on virgin materials. Embracing recycling signifies a shift from a linear economy (make, use, dispose) to a circular economy, wherein raw materials are recycled and reused, promoting prolonged sustainability in product life cycles.

7. What is regenerative cotton?

Regenerative cotton stands out as a form of cotton cultivated through the principles of regenerative agriculture, emphasizing soil health improvement, biodiversity increase, and the establishment of a closed-loop system. The advantages of regenerative cotton extend to enhanced soil health, heightened water retention, decreased reliance on synthetic chemicals and pesticides, and the fostering of biodiversity.

This method of cotton farming yields environmental benefits such as reduced soil degradation, economic advantages through diminished dependence on external inputs, and social perks for local communities by generating jobs and alleviating poverty. The popularity of regenerative cotton is on the rise among farmers and textile producers, aligning with the growing consumer demand for sustainable products.

8. Where and how are these shirts and tops manufactured?

All items are manufactured in factories that run on solar power and have a thorough waste-water system in place. All team members are paid a living wage and have good working conditions.

The t-shirt and underwear factory is located in Izmir, Turkey. The factory opened its doors in the early 1900s and is a Family-owned, 4-generation business. Solar power was installed in 2014 and was one of the first companies in Turkey to do so. The family also owns their own organic cotton field and sells organic cotton as fiber, yarns, both knitted and woven fabrics, and garments. Recycled cotton is also processed in their own facility.

9. How should I take care of my shirts and tops to ensure their longevity?

Wash as you would a regular cotton garment, preferably at low temperatures with eco-certified detergents. To maintain its quality, turn the t-shirt inside out before washing to preserve the fabric's color and minimize friction. Opt for a gentle, cold water wash with mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemicals that could impact the organic cotton fibers. Air-drying or using a low heat setting in the dryer helps prevent shrinkage and maintains the fabric's integrity.

11. What is circular fashion?

Circular fashion embraces the principles of circular economy and sustainability, revolutionizing the way clothing is designed and produced. Unlike the wasteful linear model of make-wear-dispose, circular fashion ensures that garments are created to be used and reused for an extended period, prioritizing environmental and social sustainability. This innovative approach allows a single product to have multiple lives, transforming from a T-shirt to a dress and later into a pair of shorts. Raw materials are consistently reprocessed into new creations, and when recycling isn't feasible, they are safely returned to the environment.

12. What is agood loop™ & how does it work?

agood loop™ is our circular program where customers can send their old products back to us. We then turn them into brand-new products.

As a token of appreciation for participating in our loop system, enjoy a discount on your next purchase.
