Jens Helmersson: “A lot of people who work in factories still don’t know their basic rights”

18 Aug 2020

A Good Community sits down with Jens Helmersson, founder and CEO of Quizrr, a digital training platform designed to empower factory workers by giving them a clear idea of their rights and responsibilities.

Jens came up with the idea for Quizrr after many years spent working in the fashion industry all over the world. Shocked by the way he saw workers being treated, he was just as dismayed by their lack of knowledge concerning their own rights.

Through his experience, he understood that to change what he saw he had to find a way to demonstrate to factory owners that by providing proper training to employees regarding their rights and responsibilities they will, in turn, have a happier and more productive workforce. This way, he could get a better deal for both parties.

“We had to find a way to make of making suppliers want to train workers by tapping into their willingness to do business.”

Hence the idea for Quizrr was born and the platform was launched in 2014. It caught on fast. Now in 2020 over 400 major brands and suppliers across the globe use the platform to train workers across their supply chains about their rights.

In this interview, Anders chats to Jens about his experiences in the fashion industry, how the way brands operate is changing, and the role of consumers in bringing about change.

“As customers, we have a big responsibility as well. We can change our behaviour and then companies will have to react. We own a lot of responsibility. We can at least change the way that we act to consume in a different and sustainable way and be cleverer in the garments that we pick.”
