James Watt BrewDog CEO

James Watt interview

03 Dec 2020

#agoodcommunity chats to James Watt, CEO and co-founder of BrewDog. You may have seen their recent advertising campaign against CO2 but, as you'll see, that is only the tip of the iceberg in their sustainability journey.

A Good Company · Brewdog James Watt interview with A Good Company

BrewDog began, in true startup style, with two dreamers in a garage. Since then, they have expanded to almost every habitable continent and employ over 2,000 people worldwide. But, more than just making tasty beer (and food at their bars) they're a company that, as James puts it, "stand up for the things that we believe in, take a stand when we think it’s important, wear our heart on our sleeve.”

True to form, their recent move to becoming a sustainable business is comprehensive, coupling grown-up business strategy with a no-holds-barred mission statement, and their recent advertising campaign against CO2 ruffled a few feathers.

We agree!

In a powerful interview, James chats to our CEO, Anders Ankarlid, about their journey up until this point, how they've weathered the last year, and balancing the COVID-19 pandemic alongside a transformative sustainability agenda.

“We don’t want to scramble back to business as usual, we want to build back sustainably… we want to become the most sustainable beer business on the planet.” - James Watt.

We learnt a lot about what it takes to build an international company but still remain true to the original beliefs, the power of a dedicated community, and some insights into brewing great, and environmentally conscious, drinks.

So sit back, pour a cold one (they make alcohol-free beer too) and enjoy!
